The significance of the impact of others on one’s own identity.
Although the word “Younity” begs for deeper explanation, the impact it has had upon others once shared is one of both contemplation and reflection which was my goal.
Professionals and practitioners working with children, youth and adults may find this video thought provoking. It is my hope that Younity will become a concept that is explored both in academia and professional development. Often times we define our human reality in terms of Us /Them or They as if separate and disconnected. It is my belief that such thinking has lead to a confused understanding of the world of life and fosters an often negative and simplistic understanding of other. If we are to understand ourselves and truly value the diversity in the world, Younity will be essential.
My area of specialization is to provide intensive remedial services to students with special needs in literacy and language. One of my goals would be to have the students, through new media storytelling, discuss their journey while learning literacy and language. The students would be encouraged to speak honestly and openly about their ability to learn the skills as well as the educators attempting to teach the skills to them. It will become a part of their portfolio as well as used to promote language development programs.
